Mehmet Yagmur scored eight of his 24 points in over-time as Turkey knocked off Lithuania 90-85 in the first game of the U20 European Championship Men to go into an extra session.

Turkey overcame four players fouling out and 20 turnovers in a tight match throughout. Turkish captain Oguz Savas had 21 points, Caner Oner added 15 and Cemal Nagla had 11.

The Lithuanians were led by 25 points and 16 rebounds by Povilas Butkevicius and Remigijus Trakimas had 13 and Vilmantas Dilys chipped in 12 in a losing effort.

The heavyweight showdown was tight throughout and Lithuania led 17-16 after one period. Trailing 24-20, Savas sparked a 9-0 as Turkey were ahead 31-29 at half-time.

Two foul shots by Arnas Labuckas with 3:08 left gave Lithuania a 50-43 lead - the largest of the game.  But Turkey had pulled even again at 53-53 after three periods.

A lay-up by Trakimas gave Lithuania a 75-69 lead with 1:28 remaining. After Yagmar made two foul shots, Paulius Ivanauskas missed two with 28 seconds to play.

It was a one point game when Yagmar drained a three-pointer with 16 seconds left and Edvinas Ruzgas made a pair of foul shots with 13 seconds left. But Oner sent the game to overtime 77-77 with a three-pointer of his own with 10 seconds to play.

Dilys missed his three-point attempt to win the game at the regulation buzzer.

Lithuania took the lead in the extra session but Turkey scored seven straight points - the final two coming on a Erham Yetim tip-in after two missed foul shots - for an 84-79 lead.

Trakimas and Butkevicius each only split a pair of foul shots and Yagmur's two free throws kept Lithuania at bay 86-81 with 1:20 to play. After Tomas Cerneckis and Labuckas each drained two foul shots, Yagmur's jumper gave Turkey the lead 88-85 and he added another jumper in the waning seconds for the victory.

In the day's first game in Group B, Russia overcame a late rally to beat Greece 78-70 - led by Alexey Shved's 27 points.

The BC Khimky Moscow guard added six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot as well as a perfect 11 of 11 from the free throw stripe, including four foul shots in the final 1:45.

Russia led 69-55 with 1:58 left before Greece made a final push. Michail Giannakidis and Dimitrios Verginis sandwiched three-pointers around four points by Michail Tsairelis in trimming the deficit to 71-65 with 46 seconds remaining.

Shved hit two foul shots with 40 seconds left and Verginis gave up a crucial turnover, which ended in two Artur Urazmanov foul shots with 32 ticks left and a 75-65 lead - too much for Greece to come back from again.

Russia won despite committing 21 turnovers. Urazmanov, Anatoly Kashirov and Ilya Syrovatko each added nine points for Russia.

Verginis led Greece with 14 points while Tsairellis added 12 points and seven rebounds. Giannakidis had 12 points and Alexandros Sigkounas chipped in 10 in a losing effort.
